Thankful

About a week before we found out we were expecting, a co-worker and his wife found out they were pregnant also. So when Nolan and I found out, everyone at work was so excited for both of our families. A couple of weeks later, another guy at work and his wife found out they were having one too! So three work babies all due within a few weeks of each other.

I found out today that one of the couples lost their baby last week. I can’t even begin to imagine the heartbreak they are experiencing and it makes me want to rub my belly and tell our little blueberry to hang in there, stay put, and grow, grow, grow! My thoughts and prayers are with them as they go through this tough time. I hope they eventually find a way to complete their family.

So I decided to make note of some things I may complain about but turn them into something to be thankful for.

– Morning sickness has been rough, mostly because its all day sickness and I can puke at any time. But I’m thankful for these rounds of nausea because I’ve read its a sign of a healthy pregnancy.

– Waking up often to pee. But I’m thankful that my sweet husband switched sides with me so that it’s easier for me to get up several times a night.

– Being completely exhausted. But I’m thankful that my body is doing what it needs to hopefully be growing all the necessary body parts in there.

– My work schedule. I have to be at work ridiculously early. I’m thankful that they ‘re allowing me as much maternity leave as I’d like and that I have a job that provides affordable health care.

This first trimester has been far from a walk in the park so far but hopefully its all part of a good process, and in the end we get a healthy bundle of joy. To all you other mommas having a tough time right now, we all need to hang in there and try to find the silver lining in all the gagging and puking. To all the mommas having experienced a loss, my heart breaks for you and I wish for peace in your own heart.

Hope everyone is having a good week. We’re halfway to the weekend!

Baby Hillin | 7 Weeks

7 Weeks

How Far Along: 7 Weeks

Baby is the size of a(n): blueberry

Gender Predictions: still lots of boy predictions… I don’t think I’ve heard one person say they think it’s a girl lately.

Weight Gain: less than 5 lbs.

Maternity Clothes: I bought a couple of those belly bands so that I can leave my pants unbuttoned. Much more comfortable. The lady at Motherhood tried to convince me that the belly band was pointless and that I needed maternity pants now. That just doesn’t seem right to me!

Stretch Marks: None yet.. and Amazon is making me crazy not shipping my Mother’s Cream yet!

Belly Button In or Out: In

Wedding Rings On or Off: On, they’re even lose when I’m cold. But when I walk in the evenings, my hands get so swollen and my rings are extremely tight!

Sleep: Pretty rough right now. My dreams are really intense, and always seem repetitive. Like I’m doing the same thing in them over and over again, but different things every night. They make my brain tired.

Best Moment This Week: Nolan telling me he’s been Googling pregnancy/baby stuff! I think he’s so excited to be a dad. I’m just glad he cares to know what’s going on and doesn’t give me a hard time about napping all the time!

Miss Anything: sleeping well.. and having energy.

Movement: Nah, not yet.

Cravings: Mexican food, crawfish, and watermelon

Symptoms: My all day sickness is better since my doctor’s office called me in some medicine, but it’s still lingering around sometimes. I’ve also noticed I have a little bit of trouble breathing. I read it was due to the increased oxygen for the baby and that it usually results in making the momma feel breathless. It supposed to ease up in the second trimester, but then come back in the third when the baby is actually taking up more room.

Noteworthy Moments: So many comments about it possibly being twins. Is that normal?? I think I might be showing a little early than most, but there’s no telling if it’s bloat, water weight, one baby, two babies or just my body reacting to the hormonal changes. I’ll admit that finding out so early, the morning sickness, and my little bit of belly do make me a little curious! We’ll find out in a couple of weeks, though. Then we’ll know if there’s two little blueberries in there or if I’m just chunky!

Baby Hillin | 6 Weeks

6 Weeks

How Far Along: 6 Weeks

Baby is the size of a(n): small pea

Gender Predictions: lots of people predicting a boy!

Weight Gain: Nothing significant yet.

Maternity Clothes: None yet, but I believe one of those belly band things are in my near future. Pants are getting a little tight.

Stretch Marks: None yet. My Mother’s Friend cream still isn’t here yet…

Belly Button In or Out: In

Wedding Rings On or Off: On

Sleep: On and off. I’m extremely tired but I wake up often.

Best Moment This Week: watching my belly get a little bigger!

Miss Anything: Still Sushi. It’s killing me.

Movement: None, but I can’t wait!

Cravings: Pickle Juice, Meat, Potatoes, Crawfish. I get Crawfish in a couple of weekends though!

Symptoms: Morning all day sickness, sore boobs, trouble breathing. All normal stuff I suppose. I could use some relief from the nausea though.. whew!

Noteworthy Moments: I thought I knew a lot about being pregnant… what to expect, things to avoid, what to be careful with, etc. I’m learning that I still have a lot to learn! I learned the hard way this past weekend that because of the extra melanin being produced, pregnant women burn much easier than normal. Needless to say, even after sunscreen, I’m a lobster right now!

Baby Hillin | 5 Weeks

5 Weeks

How Far Along: 5 Weeks

Baby is the size of a(n): appleseed!

Gender Predictions: no definite feelings yet, but one of our friends think it’s a girl, and our nephew thinks it’s a boy! (and that we should name him “Knuckle Sandwich”)

Weight Gain: Maybe a pound or two. I’ve been so hungry! Started at 120 lbs.

Maternity Clothes: None yet, although I have my eye on some really cute ones from other blogging mommas.

Stretch Marks: None! Hoping my mom and my nanny’s good genes help me out! I also have Mother’s Friend cream on the way.

Belly Button In or Out: In

Wedding Rings On or Off: On

Sleep: Pretty good right now. I’ve been extremely tired.

Best Moment This Week: Positive tests and telling everyone!

Miss Anything: Sushi 😦

Movement: None, but I can’t wait!

Cravings: I don’t think I’ve had any true cravings yet, but I’m preferring salty/spicy foods. Anything sweet just tastes too sweet. Also, steak and cheese have been tasting odd to me. Two of my favorite things and they may be out for a while.

Symptoms: Sore boobs for sure! I had a little bit of nausea early on, but it seems to have ceased as long as I eat often. I’m hungry about every two hours right now! All in all, nothing too crazy. Pretty normal stuff!

Noteworthy Moments: A lot of people predicted this! My husband’s cousin (after making comments about me being pregnant) said the last time he made comments joking about someone being pregnant, my sister in law actually was! A co-worker told me he knew I was earlier in the week before I told them… he said I did something, like a mannerism, that his wife did the same thing while she was pregnant and he just knew. My boss also said he had a feeling I was too!

Surprise! We’re expecting!

We found out we were expecting our first bundle of joy April 28, 2014. Five home pregnancy tests and blood work to confirm, it’s official! We’re due January 11, 2015.

The next part was telling my sweet husband, Nolan. We live in southeast Texas, so as much of a fashion nightmare it may be, he wears Crocs. Camouflage Crocs, at that. Well earlier that morning (before the positive tests), I almost fell down our steps because I tripped over them. During the day, I’d mentioned me almost breaking my neck and to please not leave them in front of the door like that. [drama queen] Well when the first test was positive, I immediately went back to Wal-Mart and bought the tiniest baby Crocs I could find. I set them by the front door and waited. I was about to go insane waiting on him to get home!

When he got home, I mentioned him leaving his Crocs in front of the door again, and he glanced at where they normally are.

Nolan: “Who’s Crocs are those?” (complete with a suspicious side eye)
Me: “Who’s do you think they are?”
Nolan: “I don’t know, what does that mean?”
Me: “We’re having a baby!”
Nolan: “Are you sure??”

I told him after 2 tests, I was pretty positive. I think he was in pure shock the first few minutes!

Then came the fun part of telling our families. Nolan was dying to tell someone the very first day, so when his sister came over so that we could do our daily walking, we told her. She was extremely excited!

Then we told Nolan’s parent’s. We tried to get our nephew, Tyner, to tell them but he wasn’t in the cooperating mood that day. I think he knew it was a big deal and was embarrassed!

Then came the rest of his family, so we decided to give his grandparents something letting them know their THIRD great grandbaby is on the way!

We had plans to see my mom on the following week, so I got her a Brighton charm for her bracelet. This will be her first grandchild!

IMG_3886

We visited my grandparents the next day with a gift for them too. This will be their first great grandchild! (I’m the first grandchild on that side.)

IMG_3874

We also had plans to attend my dad’s birthday party/family reunion type thing on the next weekend, so we waited until then to tell him and my step mom. He has been asking for a grandchild from me for an extremely long time!

And finally, I normally spend Mother’s Day weekend with my mom at her mom’s house, but because of the birthday party for my dad, I was obligated to stay here. So I sent a present with my mom for her to open and had them Skype us while she opened it! Shout-out to my awesome Nanny!

So there you have it! We are over the moon excited and so are our families!
