Life Lately

Turns out, I’m a little better at just posting a mishmash update instead of trying to schedule some sort of routine-like postings. šŸ™‚

  • I decided to do bumpdates for the new little baby every 3 weeks. It was a little insane trying to make sure I got a new picture each week with Whitlee and it seems like a lot of my updates were the same since they were so close together, so 3 weeks sounds more do-able for me, plus I don’t have to wrangle Whitlee once a week while we snap a bump pic.
  • Speaking of the new babe, I had my first ultrasound yesterday, measuring right on track and then just after they told me since it was so early that they may or may not be able to see a heartbeat yet, we saw the sweetest little flutter and heard a heartbeat! 6 weeks today. The first ultrasound always makes it seem very real to me. I love it.
  • We just got back from our vacation in Orange Beach, Alabama and it was such a good time, complete with our little daredevil going down water slides by herself, lots of playing in the beach sand, mama getting a little jelly fish sting on the first day, good food (ohh, the food), souvenir shopping, and watching our baby girl experience the beach life for the first time.
  • We’re in the throws of potty training right now and tonight, Whitlee pooped in the potty for the first time. Well Nolan walked in and saw it and said, “wow! that’s a monster turd!” And then Whitlee was suddenly terrified of the potty and “monster turds”. It was so funny and so insane and it took forever to get her not scared enough to use the potty again.
  • I scored a vintage Jenny Lind twin bed for Whitlee a couple weekends ago for $50. I’m still so freaking stoked about it. I have been searching e v e r y w h e r e for one because we couldn’t stomach the price tag on the one at Land of Nod.
  • Whitlee is so sweet about the new baby. She loves to lay her head on my stomach and she’ll pat it gently or give it kisses. My heart!
  • She’s also talking consistently in small sentences. She seems so big! You can ask her “what’s in your tummy?” and she says “roni!” (macaroni), then say “what’s in mama’s tummy?” and she says “baby!” and then ask her “what’s in daddy’s tummy?” and she says “umm, BEER!” She’s too much. My favorite phrase right now is probably “watch, daddy!” or “Whitlee do it.” and of course “love you, mama.” šŸ’—

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

I was nominated for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award by Kendra at One Day At A Time. We’veĀ  “met” through being pregnant at the same time and our baby girls not only being due so close to each other but also arriving early close to each other. She and I compare notes on our growing preemie girls and gain some peace of mind knowing they’re right on track! I’ve been enjoying getting to know her lately and I’m so happy she and her family are doing well.

The Rules:

-Link to the person who nominated you.
-Add the award logo.Ā  *Not sure what the logo is*
-Answer the questions your nominator asked.
-Nominate 7 other blogs.
-Ask your nominees 10 questions.

My Nominations:

I’m only nominating 6, because Kendra would have been my 7th, but she’s already been nominated and I didn’t want her to have to answer more questions and go through the process all over again on top of the 31 day blogging challenge we’re doing. These are all ladies due around the same time as I was with Whitlee and all but one also had baby girls! It’s so neat to read all of their stories and see their babies growing!

My Questions and Answers:

Is there any animal you hate, and why? Well I’ll be honest, I have a serious hate for our neighbors Labrador. I usually love all dogs and I’ve always liked Labs especially, but this one likes to visit our house and run off with muddy shoes we leave outside our door sometimes. He’s taken one of my husband’s work boots, one of his Crocs, one of my flip flops, one of my Crocs, and another work boot. Thankfully our neighbor found the second work boot because they were the pair we bought to replace the first boot the dog took. I mean this dog has taken like $300 worth of shoes! It makes me angry that I can’t leave shoes on my own porch because of a dog that doesn’t belong to us!

Do you have any sports rivalries in your house? We’re not really into sports at all, so I’ll have to say no here.

What is your favorite feature about your significant other? How hard he works. I tell him all the time he was born in the wrong time era, and I mean that in the most complimentary way possible. He works like people worked back in the day.. sun up to sun down, and then some. As a result, our property has transformed into something amazing in just a year. Oh and bonus, he still finds time to be a legit husband and daddy!

Where is your ideal place to live and why? I love our place right now, but if we were to ever move, it’d probably be to the lake or somewhere warm year round. Nolan and I both hate cold weather.

Have you ever seen a tornado in person? From a long distance. Thankfully, never up close.

What is your favorite show on TV currently? Currently on TV, Revenge.

What was your favorite vacation? Mine and Nolan’s honeymoon in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach Alabama was SO much fun. Our anniversary trip back the next year was also a blast, but I was newly pregnant and still fighting all day sickness so I’d put it a close second. I talk about both here and here. I think were going back in the early fall for Whitlee’s first real vacation. Just seems right.

Is your current career what you imagined you would be doing or something completely different? Where we live the most common industry is oil and gas related, so I figured I’d end up doing something in that field. I’m extremely meticulous so it’s not surprising that I ended up in Quality Control.

If there is one thing you could change about your house (or current living establishment), what is it and why? Our house is tinyyyy and poorly insulated. We’re planning to build a new home this year, so if I could change anything about our house, it’d be to get rid of it completely! We’re keeping our land but selling the house “to be moved” and I think it’ll be so cute when Whitlee says, “Bye Bye, House!”

What is your biggest pet peeve?
I’d have to say lack of common sense. I’m not sure what the deal is these days but people are so incredibly dumb! Like I’ve said about too many people, “I think he/she just has a low IQ”.

Your Questions:

1. How did you and your significant other meet?

2. Were you named after anyone?

3. How many children do you want?

4. Do you have any hidden talents?

5. What is your favorite physical feature about yourself?

6. What is your dream vehicle?

7. What kind of phone do you use? (iPhone, Motorola, Samsung, etc.)

8. If you had to pick one food to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?

9. Do you put your toilet paper on the roll over or under? (So random, I know. We have had this conversation in our family so any times, though.)

10. What is your favorite beverage?

Ready, set, go!

7.11.14 | First Anniversary

The best day of our life (so far!) was the day we saidĀ I do. We decided early on that we wanted to do something small and meaningful for our wedding day.

First came the date. We ‘officially’ started dating on 11-7 (four years ago) and Nolan proposed on 1-13 (several years later), so we picked a combination of those dates 7-11-13. It happened to fall on a Thursday, which ended up being perfect for us.

Then came the guest list. We decided to keep it to immediate family with the thought in mind that it’d be unfair to pick certain friends to attend. If we invited one, we’d need to invite them all. So 20 people – our parents, grandparents, siblings, and a few other family members that we’re close to.

I handmade the invitations because there weren’t many to send out. One of the first presents Nolan gave me was a ring with a square knot (which later had to be traded for an identical necklace because my fingers are so tiny and the sizing was compromising the prongs – 4 replaced diamonds later they offered to let me swap it!). So I incorporated the square knot into our invitations and then a little of our personalities – leather and lace.

Our attire was very simple. I like my husband best in something familiar, which lucky for him is jeans and a nice shirt. My mom wanted to be a part of my dress so she, my nanny and I shopped and shopped Mother’s Day weekend for the perfect one. I wanted something short, white, and feminine. Jackie Kennedy style preferably. We finally found a perfect Calvin Klein dress and nude heels with leopard on the inside. They were perfect!

We decided that a Justice of the Peace wedding was more our style. TheĀ JP in our county actually has a decent size court room so our family was able to go with us. We scheduled it for 2 PM and no lie, we were in, vows said, married, tears shed, congratulatory hugs given and back in the car by 2:15.

We had a small reception at my mother and father in laws home with cake, wine and beer. We decided to go with a cupcake stand so the top layer was cake and the bottom two were cupcakes. The pictures look like they were from a magazine to me! I picked Yellow Rose, a white wine from a local winery, its my favorite and now most of our family loves it too. We also had Shiner Light Blonde for the people who preferred beer.

After our reception, we got on the road to our honeymoon. We spentĀ four days in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, Alabama. We got massages, went to the beach, went parasailing, ate pizza and drank beer, got dressed up and went to a fancy dinner…it was so much fun, just the two of us.

All in all it was an absolutely perfect wedding and honeymoon. We have beautiful pictures from that day, thanks to the talented Brandie Perry. I am so thrilled that I married my best friend and we had such a perfect day. I scheduled this blog post ahead of time because today, on our first anniversary, we are in Orange Beach again! We decided we wanted to come back for our anniversary (also one more good trip by ourselvesĀ before Baby Hillin joins us!) and this time we brought some friends.

So cheers to first anniversaries and beach trips with good friends! And a special Happy Anniversary to my sweet sweet husband. You’re everything I could have ever asked for and more. I can’t wait for our next adventure together with this baby!
